Patchwork has become such a delightful statement of freshness, charm and the 'simple country look' that it's hard to remember that it came about because poor women - from Amish and Shaker communities in America to villagers living near the great textile mills of India - had to think up ways to use fabric off-cuts. These lovely quilted bedroom throws are traditionally made by women working from home, providing valuable extra income to poor families, and are mainly hand-stitched, with a little machine finishing. 100% pure cotton, filled with cotton wadding. The quilted squares are tied off at their corners with hand-knotted threads.
